Winter is here!!

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

It’s cold here!!!! The temp is only -3 not counting the wind chill. We got rain the other day then snow the next. We have just 1 of the 3 snowmobiles up and running and until the rain the ranger was usable. But not with the new snow and the drifts we haven’t tried it yet. It was so cold that the ranger wouldn’t start and had to use starter fluid to get the snowmobile going. We are in need of dry food donations. With this extreme cold the kids are eating 2-3 times what they normally do. We also need some more hay to use for bedding. We don’t have the deep snow yet to help protect them from these winds.

Newest Arrival

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Hi Everyone

Well AJ and I are back from Ohio. Yup that’s right Dover Ohio. We just completed a rescue of a dad and daughter. Three of them had been found chained to a trailer in the woods by hunters. They were starving to death. The sad news is that when the animal shelter got them back to the shelter Mom had a massive seizure and died. They were able to nurse the dad Kyva and daughter Autumn back to health. The staff at the shelter did great work with them.
The intro into their new home went even smoother than we could hope. Toboho the old timer in the pen fell in love with the little girl and had no problem with dad. Angel, the 8 year old female, said I have someone to run and play with and a little one to help raise. The rest of our kids here sang a very warm welcome song for the new kids. We should have pictures on the New Arrival Page with in the next few days.
Aj and I want to thank Deb for being here on the mountain so we could go and pick up these great animals.

Fund Raising Events

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Hi Everyone

Just to keep everyone up to date on our fund raising ideas and events. We now have a Cause on Face Book “Help Save a Very Misunderstood Animal.” We have a Fudge company giving part of the sale back to DBL if you go to their site through our site. An last we have the fund raiser on Network For Good you can find the link on our home page. Now for just a few reasons we need the funding……. The Ranger is running rough, burning oil and needs new front tires. The Jeep just went down with a broken leaf spring and need a new carb. The snowmobiles are a work in progress. All three are in different stages of repair.

We didn’t get much sleep because the guys and gals were singing their “Its snowing song” all night. There is lots of activity here on the mountain getting ready for winter, wood is still being cut and we want to thank David for all of his hard work Sunday.

Questions about wolf-hybrids

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

We have been getting emails asking lots of good questions about hybrids in general. So if you have a question ask it here so everyone can learn about them. We will try our hardest to answer your questions.

Wildlife Rehab comming soon

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

We want to congradulate AJ, Deb and Bill for completing the IWRC Basic Rehab class held at Cape Cod Comm Col. last weekend. This brings Dancing Brooke Lodge one step closer to becoming a wildlife rehab and sanctuary in addition to the wolf-hybrid rescue. We hope to be able to help other animals that are in need just as we have been helping the wolf-dogs. We will post our progress as it happens.

Finally back to doing the blog

Monday, September 21st, 2009

hello everyone. Sorry we haven’t been keeping up to date with the blog. It been a very busy summer. We have had lots and lots of rain in the first part of the summer. This caused large sections of our road to wash out. Bill and the rest of the crew was out trying to do the repairs with hand tools but had a hard time keeping up.

As some of you know this year we took over running the White River Junction VA Hospital Pow Wow. We worked long hours with VA staff to make sure the event went well.

We invite any reader to add comment to our blog here. We look forward to any questions you have on us or wolf-hybrids. Let us know what you would like to see on our web site.

We want to thank the drums and vendors that help make the pow wow a success. We need to thank our staff and the Friends of Dancing Brooke Lodge for manning the rescue while AJ and I are out at the pow wows.

November Update

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Hi Everyone

We know we said we wanted to do weekly updates but this has been a very busy time of year. We have been trying to get wood cut, chopped and stacked for winter. There is always work on the pens to do. We have been doing several trips per week to Baker River Deer Farm in Wentworth to get scrap meat. Rick, the owner, does butchering of wild game and local livestock and has been filling 5-6 barrels at a time. The wolves are very happy with all the fresh meat and bones but still love to nibble on the dry food provided by the local Wal-Marts. We want to say thank you to everyone that has helped or visited this summer/fall. Today we woke up to about a foot of snow on the ground and by afternoon it was raining, making the snow very heavy. We got to confirm that the new frame for our tent holds up to a heavy snow load. We also got reminded that Easy Ups are also Easy downs with heavy snow. That’s how we woke up, the weatherman said 2-3 inches possible. Anyone that knew how sick Silvermoon was will be happy to know that she is doing much better. We want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Hopefully our next entry wont be as far apart.

Week of Aug 2-9

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Hello everyone

AJ wants to know if anyone has blueprints for an ARK!! We have been very wet and the guys and gals have been swimming instead of running around their pens ( well not really) We want to thank everyone that came up over the weekend. If anyone is going to be in the area of White River Junct. VT stop by our booth at the Powwow at the VA Hospital Aug 9 & 10. No big stories this week other than Red River playing in the puddles and splashing his brothers. I guess it goes with his name.
We have begun interviewing for several new animals to come live with us. We still have 2 tent sites open for next weekends work party(Aug 16-17) bring your berry bucket with you, blackberries are almost ready for picking, you have to leave some behind for Shinny Bear per AJ

Good Night for now and stay dry
